Rituals of Hybridity.Learning Between the Digital and the Ancient

Hybrid ceramic series/Multi-day firing experience: An exploration of clay 3D printing altered through carving, sculpting and wheel throwing, bringing automated repetition and hand-making into the unpredictable process of Anagama wood firing.
The pieces were later fired in an Anagama wood kiln at Glass & Ceramics Center KUU in Mallusjoki, Finland. For a week, the process extended beyond making the objects into a relational experience, preparing and cutting wood, participating in communal firing shifts, and continuously feeding the kiln. Fire and circulating wood ash became the unpredictable decorators shaping their final surfaces.
Bringing 3D-printed ceramics into this slow and ancient firing process created an encounter between very different ways and temporalities of making, exploring how new technologies and long-established craft traditions can meet and learn from each other.
